Spirits transcend the waters

Gliding through shadows

Unafraid of the muck

Layered below, for they know

Beneath, the mire contains

Another lost soul, searching

For a chance to find his way

Into the greater unknown

For Cookie  ❤

I decided to make a dreidel
But I didn’t have the slightest notion
How to even begin this endeavor
Still, I wanted it filled with emotion

So I grabbed a block of wood
And began to chisel away
Hoping to carve perfection
To celebrate Hanukkah’s days

I painted on the Hebrew letters
Purple, green, red and blue, to begin
“A great miracle occurred there”
Symbolized by nun, gimmel, hay and shin

I thought I did a pretty good job
With this new found toy, I played
Now I pass it on to you, my friend
With love, from my heart, it was made

Writing Prompt – Dreidels and Ladles – Day 16/31 (I confess, I left out the ladles lol)

They shine in the night, with beauty and grace

Iridescent butterflies, made of delicate lace

Like polished jewels, they glisten, and glow

Outshining the beams, from the light that flows

Dancing about, in a rhythmic flight

Over ripples of water, a spectacular sight

Though stripped of their colors, the moon does not care

Each night is delightful, when the butterflies are there

Chestnuts and Chisels ~ #poetry #DecemberWriting

Hidden inside a prickly spine

Flavorful chestnuts, quite divine

Roasted in the fireplace, oh, how sweet!

Revealing such a wonderfully tasty treat

But it wasn’t all fun and games, no way

It took us forever, and a day

To open the pods, from which they grew

Good thing we remembered what to do

Out to Dad’s woodshed, we ran through the mizzle

Searching the toolbox, for his faithful chisel

When at last we had found it, we ran back inside

Impatiently waiting, we’d cracked them open, wide

Layering the chestnuts in a pan for the fire

Dad would sit back, watch our faces, and admire

All of us, savoring the tender meat that we found

Hoping more chestnuts would fall to ground

But the season is over, the trees are all bare

We stuffed ourselves silly, so we really don’t care!

It holds the spirit of Christmas

With its flowers, pink and white

A variegated beauty, dazzling

To warm our winter nights

Her leaves of emerald green

Snuggle up, from rooted stems

Together they decorate our holidays

And we smile, because of them

The poinsettia is a Christmas tradition

Brought here from Mexico

A tropical plant, with such elegance

Of sweetest nature, does bestow
