Small child, inquisitive in nature
Pushes mightily against the door
A glimmer of light from the other side
Instinctively, he must know more!
Unaware he is being watched
He’s determined to make his way in
The door pushes back, stubborn, stuck
Is there even a chance he will win?
Head down, he is almost there
Til a sound from the room disturbs
“Who dares gain entrance to my lair?”
From a creature, now, quite perturbed
“Little boys don’t belong here” he cried
“You best go outside, yes, to play.”
“Leave me alone, in my empty home,
I beg of you, please, GO AWAY!”
The little boy laughed at the face on the wall
Not heeding the creature, would be his downfall…

After reading an article on the coronavirus, and how family members could not see their loved ones, and how, if they passed, having a funeral was next to impossible, left me heartbroken. I know what it is like to not be able to say goodbye. And so, I wrote this…
By candle’s glow, I read the words
From a book, as worn can be
I’ve kept the roses he once sent
To show his love for me
Pearls, I wore around my neck
Opalescent, reflect the light
Bringing me back to memories
I now cherish, every night
Those days are gone now
His life no longer breathes
I see his face, smiling
Though I am now bereaved
The time passed by, too quickly
Oh, how so much had changed
I couldn’t say goodbye to you
Our lives were rearranged
Kept apart by a demon virus
I couldn’t even take your hand
Nor kiss your lips, one last time
I prayed you’d understand
Why I hadn’t been able to visit
I was there, in spirit, true
But it did not ease my sorrow
When you passed, alone, just you
So my dearest love, my man
I go on without you by my side
Until the day we are together
I will stay, safely locked inside…

Your caring touch surrounds me
With gentleness, astounds me
You feed me love, without hesitation
Through a loving God, you are His creation
My partner, when the times are harried
Thankful, you are the one, I married

In a sea of diversity
Be exactly who you are
Let everybody see
The soul that you encompass
Don’t be afraid to be
For together, brothers and sisters
We become Human-ity
