Compassion ~ a true story

She tossed her bag into the back seat, got in and looked around. Something seemed so unfamiliar, yet she couldn’t quite place it. She sat there, somewhat confused by the objects that lay in front of her. She got back out, looked over at me and gasped “This isn’t my car!” I felt for the elderly woman, knowing she was quite befuddled by what had just happened. She removed her bag, closed the doors and went to the next car over. Same routine, only this time it was her car. She waited for the woman, who owned the first car, to exit, merely to tell her what had happened. I saw compassion in the younger woman’s eyes, as she smiled and said it was okay, and not to worry.

I’m telling you this because it was wonderful to see someone show compassion to the elderly. We tend to forget they are human, too. I don’t know who the ladies were, but there was a reason they were to meet today…only God really knows why.

Echoes in the Dark ~ #NaPoWriMo #poetry

Once again, 4AM greets my tired eyes

Black as pitch, through my window,

I see nothing, not even shadows

No life, no movement, only the echoes

Of what must be hiding, nearby

Not even a glimmer of morning strikes me

The sun, yet asleep, nestled in the world

Below us, as we slowly turn, to greet her

She rises, with a hint of sarcasm, as if

She might not make an appearance today

I do not know, still, I shall wait, languishing

Eyes heavy, mind numb, fingers throbbing

From the constant tapping of keys, letters

Mixed with numbers, making little sense,

Much like the sun, in the winter

Smiling, almost sneering, never warming

But it is spring and she has compassion,

For those who suffer the strains, of gray days,

And gloomy skies, only to tease, as darkness

Falls, and she once again, laughs, then

Slips away, into the umbrage of the night

Whisper in the silent night

Of promises, of morning light

Talk to me in tender tones

Caress my ever aching bones

With words that speak of thoughts anew

Ones that call to me, from you

To guide me through the darkest days

Quietly, in compassionate ways

Your understanding heart, so dear

You speak the words my soul can hear

Yes! Whisper to me in the night

Of promises, of hope, of light
