Beneath crystal shards

Lies warmth, awaiting the thaw

Of winter’s cold breath

The cold winds begin to blow

And pretty soon, the sky will snow

Please don’t let me stay out here

I need warmth, like you, my dear

I’m just as human as anyone

I love to sit in the shining sun

But when the sun turns much colder

And I, become, a wee bit older

Inside, away, from bitter weather

Is where I’ll feel much, much better

Author’s note:  As the colder weather makes its way in, please remember to take in your pets.  Freezing conditions for humans are unbearable.  I can’t imagine what they feel like when forgotten in the cold…

Uncomfortably Numb – #poetry

Cold, like the rain on a winter’s day
Callously sticking to my skin,
Old, like blackened snow, I stay
Draped in clothing, wearing thin

Shattering, chattering, subzero illusions
Numbing my senses, in vain
Chattering, shattering, icicle profusions
Looking for warmth, to guide me again

Stabbing through me, sharp and jagged
The pain just won’t go away
Leaving me breathless, hopelessly ragged
I fall to my knees, and I pray

The colder weather is approaching,  Reach out and spread the warmth in your heart to those less fortunate.

She knows what it means

To be left out in the cold

Still, she blossoms warmth

~

Morgan of BooknVolume, has issued a haiku challenge. Write a haiku a day for one year!  I am committing to this challenge for the next YEAR! That’s right, 365 days of Haiku!! 🙂

As Morgan said in her post, a year is a Major commitment, but I’ve never been known to pass up a challenge. I look forward to sharing the seasons ahead, and gratefully thank Morgan for stirring the embers of my soul and igniting the fire in my heart…

Should you like to participate in the challenge, simply link back to Morgan’s first post found HERE

She found herself

In this unearthly place

Felt his presence

Chill her face

Watched the mist

Against the ground

Rise, then fall

Without a sound

Could this be illusion?

A trick, not a treat

He’s slowly surrounding

Himself, at her feet

Feeling the tug

She realizes fast

As he pulls her under

With a sinister grasp
