The soulful sound of crickets sing
As summer starts to fade
Skies begin to turn to gray
The leaves, no longer jade

Songs of chirping birds
That lingered in the trees
Are now the haunting melodies
Imprisoned in the breeze

The autumn air, enticing
It calls me out to play
To welcome in the changes
As Fall returns this day

I am exhausted

The sheer thought of moving

Devours my being

Sends my mind on a whirlwind

Unable to stop the spin

Like an autumn leaf meeting its demise

I continuously spiral

Downward, toward the earth below

Watching as the distance between

Disappears, and I am one step closer

To the ground, where I can rest

For eternity

Barren trees reach out

Searching for the sunlight’s warmth

Autumn slips away
