Underneath my nice new boots
Well baked, in the Texas sun
A wad of gooey gobs of gook
Otherwise known as bubblegum

Some kid must have tossed it
Out the window of Dad’s truck
And just like that I stepped in it
And yelled, “What the heck?”

(OK so, that line didn’t rhyme
But this poem is rated PG
I’ll catch ya at another time
Off guard, cause that’s who I be)

I tried to walk across the street
But my boot just kept on stickin’
I hope I never find the kid
Cause I’d sure give him a lickin’

When I finally made it, to the other side
I looked around, for a stick on the curb
Scrapping the gum off the bottom
I had a face that looked quite disturbed

Excuse, mister, said a cute little girl
But I think you’ve stepped on my gum
I’m sorry if I messed them up on you
To her charms my heart did succumb

I told her it was quite alright
The gum wouldn’t stick forever
Took myself down to the local store
Chalked it up to another endeavor

I’m more careful these days
About where I put my foot down
I promised myself I’d pay attention
I sure don’t want to have sticky feet
So I’ve been practicing gum prevention

Alyssa was caught in the act!

I thought it was safe, and no one was near

When all of a sudden, I saw Mommy dear

She had a hand on her hip, and a look in her eye

She caught me red handed, all I did was sigh

It’s a habit I have, each year, with a bunny

I bite off his ears, it makes him look funny

I know it’s not nice, but I don’t do it very often

Besides, it’s no good, if the chocolate does soften

                                 ++++

It only happens on Easter, and it brings her such bliss

So, Happy Easter to you, from chocolate-faced Lys!

*No real bunnies were harmed during the writing of this poem… I can’t speak for the chocolate ones, though.  😉

Whispers of wonder, beyond shadows, fall

Prismatic glow adorns the darkened trees

Lost to the wind, among mountains tall

Here is my heart, standing strong and free

Basking in the light, of the afternoon sun

I feel the warmth on my face, and it’s grand

How perfectly aligned I am, but not yet done

I still have much more I must understand

Flowers in the distance, seem to call my name

Across the lush green grasses, I wander closer

As I walk this sacred land, my soul is mine to claim

To this symphony, I am, my own composer

The forest sings to me, I’m as calm as I can be

Far beyond the realm of my command

Mr. and Mrs. Peep, donned in their best Sunday duds
Were ready for the annual Easter parade, down Main
Mr. Peep in his tuxedo, Mrs. Peep in a purple bonnet
Often found the other chicks dressed quite mundane

Trying to make a statement, the Peeps went to town
Waving to the folks, and flashing smiles, for all to see
But, no one was paying attention, everyone did ignore
“We’re the best dressed!” cried Mrs. “How can this be”

The town had done away with this yearly competition
They more concerned with everyone being friendly
It seems they had had enough, of the Peep’s traditions
No one seemed to care, if the Peeps were even trendy

This Cinquain might be disturbing to some, and I apologize for that.  But no one can justify taking the life of a child, or any human being, under any condition…

Senseless

The ways of war

Ravaging innocence

Inexplicable brazenness

Murder
