How shall I dream
While the world awakens
Touched by sun’s luminous rays
Waterfalls flow, in misty white haze

How shall I dream
While the world is alive
Subtle soft breezes gather my cloth
Babbling brooks, covered with froth

How shall I Dream
While the world flourishes
Flora abounds, in delicate scents
Filling my senses, with lasting content

How shall I dream
While the world shows its beauty
Eyes open wide, like never before
Artistry captured, with gentle rapport

Colleen’s poetry challenge for this week is synonyms only!  Her two words are Give and Shake.  Check out Colleen’s blog to find which forms of poetry are acceptable for this challenge.  Have fun!

Written as a Tanka, my synonyms are Abandoning and Shudder.

As winter snow falls,

I shudder in the cold air,

Abandoning warmth.

Much like dear autumn’s last leaf,

Who dares to cling too tightly.

A Victorian Christmas at Ringwood Manor

This past Sunday, we toured the Ringwood Manor. The manor is decorated for a Victorian Christmas. The pictures don’t do the displays justice, but I wanted to share our experience with you. It was absolutely gorgeous! There is info about the manor, following the photos, so please do scroll all the way through. Enjoy!

Ringwood Manor is a National Historic Landmark District, having historical importance spanning from Native American occupation through the early 20th century. The surrounding Ramapo Mountains’ rich magnetite iron deposits made the area a major iron supplier and became the home to a succession of ironmasters for over two hundred years. During the Gilded Age, Ringwood Manor became a large summer estate for partners Peter Cooper and Abram S. Hewitt and their families. In 1938, the house, its contents, and the surrounding property were donated by the family to the State of New Jersey as a museum and a state park. With original historical structures, gardens, and landscapes on 582 acres and extensive historical collections illustrative of family life, community, industry and culture, Ringwood Manor is a unique repository of American history.

Today, Ringwood Manor is a central part of Ringwood State Park and administered by the NJ Department of Environmental Protection, Division of Parks and Forestry. (http://www.ringwoodmanor.org/)

The sound of the ocean calls

And its creatures gather

To hear the mighty roar

Softly playing within

Only a whisper, crashing

Among the white capped waves

Do not misconstrue

Tigers, placidly laying

The wild is untamed
