The Wall ~ #darkpoetry

Pushed upon, punched, beaten

Holes leave marks upon my soul

I keep standing, though weakened

But never again am I whole

Lean upon me, ever so gently

I can hold you up, I’m strong

I try so hard, but consequently

You always find me wrong

Inside this house, the walls

Keep secrets from the rest

Broken apart, the pieces fall

Tales never spoken, never confessed

Author’s Note: On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men. (https://ncadv.org/statistics)

She starts with a single thread
Carefully, weaving her loom
Intricate lines connected with ease
For those dropping by, certain doom

Several come calling, about her
None too quickly, do they escape
Caught in the strands of the webbing
She has carefully spun and draped

She has trapped so many before them
Even more know her clutches too well
A spider will always outfox her prey
When she captures them, under her spell

Fizzled ~ #JuneWriting #poetry

Like fireworks, we ignite the skies
With hopes and dreams, and how’s and why’s

As radiant lights, we guide our hearts
Through thoughts and words, we must impart

Scattering about, with a certain flair
Watching, waiting, not knowing where

Eventually falling, back to the ground
Messages sent, are quite profound

With a thundering boom, we get your attention
Oh, the OOHs and AAHs, did I forget to mention?

That fireworks are a lot like you and I
Trying hard not to fizzle, when they die

Baby Boom ~ #JuneWriting #poetry

It was quite the extravagant fuss
In fact, it was superfluous
To invite all the neighbors
To witness the labor
Then stand around and discuss

But Gina wanted it this way
All the ladies, at once, had their say
Name her Lucy, Meg or Tilly
But, oh no, never Willy
We just can’t wait for this day!

The men couldn’t stand anymore
Led their ladies right out the front door
Making one big to-do
Leaving Gina so blue
And angry at Jim, to the core

Poor Jim, he could feel the doom
As the due date did solemnly loom
Can you imagine the noise?
When they found out it was boys!
Not one, but two, baby boom!
