Shattered State ~ #poetry #DecemberWriting

In his shattered state, he couldn’t decompress

Someone tried to kill him which added more distress

Air came, in shorter spurts, a gasp, here and there

Shards of glass, sliced his skin, he was in despair

When he found his wits, he peered through the hole

Wondered how the piercing bullet, didn’t take his soul

What he saw made him jump, he tumbled to the floor

He had escaped so many times, he couldn’t anymore

The reaper had come calling, waited for him to depart

Not letting him get away again, death took his evil heart

Life could be as easy, as making a snowman in the yard

Or playing in the fallen snow, and skating on the pond

But somehow things are different, and life can be so hard

Just remember to keep living, in the now and far beyond

Dry your tears, baby girl, and reach up to the sky

God will be your guiding light, set your spirits high

Speak to Him today, let Him take away your sorrows

Then speak to Him again, and all of your tomorrows

Do not worry, baby girl, everything’s been planned

Let the sadness disappear, into God’s almighty hands

Smile, my baby girl, let no more tears be shed

Just look up to Heaven, let His light shine through, instead

After All ~ #poetry #DecemberWriting

High upon the cliff, bottle of rum, in hand

He stood, staring down, into the open sea

Was this the day when he’d finally let go?

Or would he, once again, panic and flee?

He took one last chug, dropping the glass

Watching, as it crashed against the rocks

Shattering, into a million pieces, shards

Stepping back, of his life, he took stock

Still, he was taunted by the raging waters

Crashing against the cliffs, ferociously

No more booze, to calm his quaking nerves

At last, he jumped, plummeting, into the sea

Feeling icy waters caress him, as deeper, he let himself fall

Neath the ocean, is now the place he calls home

Tis what he really wanted, after all…

It isn’t something to find, under the tree

There is no wrapping nor bow to untie

Family, by far, is the best gift, you see

Tis the one thing that money can’t buy
