Colleen’s challenge for us this week are the words Slow and Work.  Remember, you can only use synonyms to write your poetry!

Written as a Tanka, my synonyms are Reluctance and Endeavor.

To remain quiet

Shows reluctance, in myself

I must endeavor

To become a voice, be heard

And dare to be different

In this life, you’ll always have dreams, big plans

A reminder to self, to remain an avid participant

But, should you choose, a much different path

Dare not find one, in which you become insolent

Life could be as easy, as making a snowman in the yard

Or playing in the fallen snow, and skating on the pond

But somehow things are different, and life can be so hard

Just remember to keep living, in the now and far beyond

Standing on the garden steps
In dignified fashion, she waited
Majestic, in her satin wings
Her heart, had now deflated

As a pauper, she dressed in tatters
Her dress, was sewn from rags
How could she ever convince them?
In these clothes, she’d felt rather scrag

Though, proudly, she stood before them
There was a conflict, deep inside
She knew exactly who she was
To the others, she’d have to hide

Noble being, angel fair
So different from the rest
Unworthiness, masked by beauty
Would always feel oppressed

I will not be defined
By the color of my skin
The style of my clothes
Or what shape I am in

My size does not make me
Any different from you
Look in the mirror
It’s all point of view

Society has
No claim over me
Trying to validate
What I refuse to be

But I know better
Than any of they
I know my heart
And with that, I’m okay
