Sweetest Magnolia – #poetry

She dances
With the winds
Like a ballerina of nature
Blushing
As the leaves follow suit
Effortlessly
She stands
On a pedestal
Proud
Of her earthly roots
Magnolia
Sweetest blossom
She shines
An everlasting glow
Such beauty
She places upon us
Tis enchantment
She does bestow

With a Whoosh – #NaPoWriMo – #AprilWriting – #poetry

They dared me to do, so, I couldn’t say no
It was off to the airplane, my parachute in tow
As well as my fly mate, his name was Joe
Who said we could jump when the pilot said go!

I was ready, just waiting, to fall from the sky
Just me in the air, and oh, yeah, the other guy
Who told me it is fun, it’s really cool to fly
Not what I thought, as my wife waved goodbye

Did she know something, and wasn’t telling?
Oh Lord, what on Earth, is that awful yelling?!
It’s me, I’m screaming, it’s air I’m expelling
As for dear Joe, I hope it’s not smelling…

When I finally calmed myself, I tried not to frown
Things were far below me, I think there’s a town
I wonder if my family will now think me renown
Dressed in this outfit, falling, all the way down

The land was coming closer, what’s he waiting for?
Pull the string! Hey Joe! I no longer wish to soar
It’s too early for me to be knocking on Heaven’s door
With a whoosh, parachute up, I smiled, once more?

Where time did once represent a moment

It becomes peculiar, in the blink of an eye

Sometimes it’s bucolic, a quaint bestowment

Sometimes it’s warped, swiftly flying by

Taking What it Wants – #FlashFiction – #CarrotRanch

Charli, over at the Carrot Ranch gave us the prompt Exhaustion. Here are the rules:

In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story that includes exhaustion. Who is exhausted and why? Can you make art of exhaustion? Go where the prompt leads!

Exhausted. The mere thought of the word makes me tired. I suppose staying up until the wee hours of the morning isn’t the best way to overcome it, but writing has a way of taking what it wants. There’s never a choice.

Still, finding the chance to sneak a few winks before Marsha shows up is difficult. Once she is here, there is no hope of relaxing. She is a spitfire, a jumble of energy. I am just a tired old woman. She never understands. But then again, editors never really do.

Chapter 1… my mind is a blank.

Word Count: 99

Prompt: Exhausted

First in Line – #NaPoWriMo – #AprilWriting – #poetry

We decided to try a new restaurant
It just opened, down at the mall
The line was long, and we were hungry
We couldn’t wait that long at all

Looking about, we had trouble
Finding another spot we could eat
When hubby shouted, “Let’s go there!
I could really use some meat!”

Everyone thought he had lost it
He was pointing to Veggies Galore
Surely he wouldn’t suggest they make beef
Without easily starting a war

When we finally reached the door
We realized it wasn’t a dream
An eggplant, picketing outside the place
Held a sign, “Eat Beef!” , it screamed

We could help but laugh at him
This purple veggie, was feeling so fine
Soon enough, the crowds showed up
So glad we were first in line!
