She juggled her life

Made it fit into the day

Until, she ran out

Felled by wasted distractions

She squandered her existence

In a quaint little coffee shop, across the street

The town folk get together, to have a little treat

Every morning, like clockwork, they arrive at eight

To get their favorites, from a gal, they call her Kate

Now, let me tell you a bit, about this dear ole lady

Some folks say her coffee’s, tasting kind of shady

They claim it has a hint of peach, just a bit fruity

But Kate says no, it can’t be, blaming it on Judy!

The folks suspect, they’re in cahoots, those two

Even the tea was off, smelled like hazelnuts, eew!

Seems the lovely ladies, had been having some fun

Switching up the drinks, before the day was done

They began to laugh, thinking they had pulled a gem

Until the folks, tossed the drinks, right back at them

She is living proof
Animals know compassion
For she has taken
Another as her own true
Keeping it warm in the night

There is no struggle
Nor is there disparity
Where love conquers all

It’s the first challenge of February, and Colleen lets us pick our own words!  Synonyms are not necessary but I used them anyway. Keeping with the love theme, this week, my words are Arouse and Glow. Although I’ve used then in a different context.  😉

Written as a Tanka, my synonyms are Awakened and Light.

Clouded skies part ways

When, at last, the morning breaks

And my sun shines high

Tis then I am awakened

By the glory of the light

Colleen’s challenge for us this week are the words Slow and Work.  Remember, you can only use synonyms to write your poetry!

Written as a Tanka, my synonyms are Reluctance and Endeavor.

To remain quiet

Shows reluctance, in myself

I must endeavor

To become a voice, be heard

And dare to be different
