The crevices cracked further, with every loud thud. Walls crumbled, as large chunks of drywall fell from the ceiling. Something sinister was going on in the upstairs apartment. Just one person couldn’t make that racket.

They moved in a week ago. Jerry was transferred, his company suggesting this place. It seemed nice, and they settled in. One night, the sound, deafening, began, continuing until it got the response it was waiting for.

An eerie feeling came over Sandy, sending shivers down her spine. Glancing upward, she saw two eyes, staring at her, blank, cold, and lifeless.

They left everything behind.

Sitting cross-legged, and with a carefree spirit, she summoned him over. Then had second thoughts. What if he was some mad man? It was too late now. He was making his way toward her, and she wasn’t in a position to get up quickly and run. Mustering all the courage she had, she waited for him to arrive.

“Where you motioning to me?” he asked.

“Um, no, I mean, yes, I mean, I don’t know what I was thinking.”

“I see. Well, I’ll be on my way then.”

“No, wait a sec. Maybe, this was meant to be.”

Maybe not….

The screen flickered and then he was gone…..

Caroline didn’t know what happened. One minute, a wonderful conversation with Richard, the next, poof! He vanished into thin air. All she saw was a light shining on an empty chair.

Richard planned it all along. He had been trying out new sets of magic tricks for his next show. What better time to test one then when talking to Caroline. Surely, she’d figure it out.

A sudden thump on the door brought him back to reality. Answering, he came face to face with the police. Had they discovered his true plan?

“Tart of barberry, place it first
This isn’t one to quench a thirst
Careful not to catch a thorn
Lest you feel the branch’s scorn”

“All these silly spells, however did they get along this way?” Bradley pondered. He had been cleaning out his grandmother’s old trinket box when he came upon the false bottom. It’s there he found the spell.

Barberry was easy to find, and he loved a good adventure. Looking for the plumpest berry, he grabbed the branch, but alas, a thorn. The pain would not yield as Bradley sunk to the ground.

Grandmother always knows best…

On top of the pile was the answer to everything. But what was the question? How can one find the answer without knowing what to look for? And on which pile?

Perplexed by the number of books placed haphazardly around the room, and upon shelves, Danny felt the overwhelming urge to run, in the opposite direction. There was no way for him to find the secret she claimed to have left, in the amount of time given.

Carly always had a mysterious way about her. It’s what intrigued Danny most.

It’s how she knew they would never find his body…
