Sweet child
Let them see
Innocent eyes
Not understanding
Let tears flow freely down
I will shelter you from harm
And never let you fall from grace
For their light is much too dark to shine
But, your light shines much too brightly to dim
Author’s Note: Nearly 700,000 children are abused in the U.S annually. An estimated 683,000 children (unique incidents) were victims of abuse and neglect in 2015, the most recent year for which there is national data. About four out of five abusers are the victims’ parents. A parent of the child victim was the perpetrator in 78.1% of substantiated cases of child maltreatment. (Info via National Children’s Alliance). If you know of a child who is being abused, please…say something. Calls can be anonymous!

Thank you for adding the notes at the end because so often the perpetrators are glossed over by headlines and statistics. Good powerful piece of writing 🙂

Such a tragedy! I have nominated you for a most deserving award. I understand if you don’t participate – just wanted you to know you are my inspiration for all that you do.

Yes, and yet a sad reality…
I’m honored that you thought of me for this award! I don’t normally do them, but I’m intrigued by your questions. I’m looking forward to passing it on. 🙂 ❤

Thanks Dorinda. I did the same. Seems like a worthy award – we all need recognition for something, lol.
