She fell asleep, in a book, in a faraway land
To dream about love, the touch of his hand
She surrounded herself, in clouds and stars
Curled up in the pages, of Jupiter and Mars
But, words became blurry, no longer told tales
The nightmare began, her dreams, assailed
Lost in the binding, she fought to awaken
Unsteady hands quaked, as if being shaken
Try as she may, she remained in the dream
Until the harrowing sound of a horrid scream
Brought her back to reality, groggy, but she
Was still caught in the pages, and ever will be

There are really are dreams like that for some people, where they experience discomfort and unpleasantness and yet still remain trapped in the dream and do not awaken. I usually sleep like a log, so I guess I am fortunate, but I know several who tell of regular nightmares that they seem unable to escape. Not an easy topic and I think your poem reads well 🙂

Thank you, David. I write a lot from personal experience, then try to find a picture to match. I tweak some pieces so they reflect the photo, which is what I’ve done here.
