I think it was just a century ago

Yes, I’m certain it wasn’t much longer

When I cast the spell of fire’s light

Twas then I became much stronger

Making colors dance, in rhythmic circles

While, below, Earth lit up the night

I stood high, above the mountain tops

Watching clouds, with mysterious light

Magical spells, calling forth my sisters

Let them rise in celebrated breath

Let them shine their light, in the darkness

Giving purpose, to their immortal death

I could feel my sisters, gathered around me

One’s who had passed, still in their prime

Banished by those, who misunderstood

I knew know, it was nearly my time

This promise, I make, to those before

I will never let you be cast aside

For you are the fire, burning in my soul

The reason you shall never be denied

Whatever was a little old witch to do?

She couldn’t get rid of her warts

Trying all manner of magical spells

These hideous things, she couldn’t thwart

Bibidi bobidi, they just didn’t work

Both abracadabra, and alakazam, fell flat

One more try, before completely giving up

Turned herself into a frog, just like that

Perched up high, upon a branch

In the forest, dark and scary

The owl waits for his next prey

Though his mistress, quite contrary

She sits inside, in black of night

By the window, where she eyes

Creatures scurrying about the grass

And much to her surprise

One comes closer, just enough

So the door, she opens wide

Watches as it makes its way

Unsuspecting, now inside

The cauldron boils and bubbles

As the witch begins to chortle

“Trick or treat, my tasty one

It’s time for my nightly mortal”

Authors note: This poem was written for the beginning of a novel, ( as yet untitled), my daughter is penning!  Can you tell how thrilled I am that she is writing?!

When once a tale, twas never told

A child was brought into the fold

Always knowing she was special

Unaware she was, of her inner devil

With powers to make the bold collapse

And let the meek fight back, perhaps

Elders let her find her way, never letting go

Of the magic, watching it take its course

Til it was time to let her know

Yes, the feelings she held, dark, inside her

Would open her heart, and guide her

To the wonders she would finally find

The ones she has hidden, deep in her mind

My broom is ready to take its flight

I’ve stirred this brew for half the night

Read the book in such a hurry

All the words becoming blurry

Did I get the potion right?

Will it cause a terrible fright?

One more time, read it through

Before I make my way to you

Another stir before I go

Now it’s time to start the show

OH! The plans I have in store

When I knock upon your door
