In the crinkled pages, of an old notebook

I wrote my life story, with all that it took

Parchment discolored, tattered and torn

Of how my life was ended, when yours was reborn

I had kept them so close, afraid to let go

This was just me, though you’d never know

You didn’t remember, once, we were one

All that we had, had been sadly undone

It was then that I realized, how could I be so blind

This fantasy, created, was all in my mind

You never brought roses, nor held me so close

My words on the paper, were mere empty prose

Now the books are frayed, and the roses are dried

Left there, in memory, of the day that I died

The Place Someone Called Home – #NaPoWriMo #poetry

Somewhere near the center

In a town much like your own

Lurking in the shadows, is

The place someone called home

Graffiti paints the outside

Where once the stone stood proud

Covered over by nature’s roar

Standing alone, now, in a crowd

Of wooden barriers hiding

Branches and trees converge

Should you find an entrance

I do hope you’ll soon emerge

For town folk tell the story

Of a spirit, there’s no doubt

Who lures you to explore within

But never lets you out

Though light filters in from far up above

A candle illuminates, her unending love

For buried deep within these pages, bound

A story is told of a love, quite profound

Each word is penned in invisible ink

Into each line, her feelings would sink

These books held her secrets, no one could see

Her life in the parchment, a true mystery

He opened the books, left here, all alone

The pages were empty, no words was he shown

Holding them nearer, to the candle’s bright flame

He knew there was something, it whispered his name

Closer, he brought the blank pages toward light

No words did appear, yet he felt something, slight

She whispered her love, but he caught not a word

So she stayed a closed book, spoken but unheard

She writes, to drive away reality

Lost in worlds, of immortality

Searching passages of ancient rhyme

To drown the sorrows of life, unkind

Once written on a single page

Smeared about, by senseless rage

This story, penned, becomes a blur

The one that’s known to only her

Come sit with me while I relax for a few

I often come here when there’s nothing to do

The old wooden bench is a comforting place

I can sit here for hours, the sun on my face

But today it is different, I’m not here alone

Something was left on this ancient, worn throne

And I sit down beside it, and have a good look

Feel the essence that emanates off of this book

Is it waiting for me, or is it only for show?

Can I touch the yellowed pages, I really don’t know

If I open this book, will it lose all its glory?

Still I wonder, perhaps, if it’s my untold story
