It has been a long time since we sat

Way back then, I believe we were phat

Our days were confounded

Skeletons abounded

Now naked, donned only in a hat

Lost spirits, dancing, in midair flight,
No shadows cast, beneath the light

Of a street lamp, in the dewy mist,
Lingering softly, like a sweetened kiss

Stuck in limbo, they forage the Earth
Longing, praying, for their own rebirth

Though nothing here, is worth the tally,
Too many have gathered, in the alley

Harrowing screams, and chilling groans
Covered in dirt, these skeletal bones

They hope for more, but circumstances
Just don’t allow them, second chances

So hover they must, no place to land
Their presence, no longer in demand

Forced to move on, to find their place
Where eternity rests, without a trace

Friends till the end, forever, they cried
On the battlefield, beaten, tis when they died

Now locked together, by their own man-made chains
Only problem about them, was neither had a brain

You’d think by now, they would know how to break
The bindings around them, how much could it take?

But emotions ran high, and soon they did fight
Yelling at each other, all day and all night

When one would go left, the other went right
Things got so nasty, the neighbors took flight

Then the Devil himself, called them to him
Demanded they behave, and then, on a whim

He decided the two, must forever stay
The way they came to him, on that fateful day

And he went a step further, making sure he was clear
No more arguing nor fighting, or they’d disappear

But that wasn’t the only thing that made them cranky
He named one of them Clinky, and the other one, Clanky

All Hallows eve, the night closes in

Fantastical beasts return on a whim

Waiting and watching, the chill, we suspected

But shadows grow longer, and quite unexpected

The moon shines a glow, but it’s still not enough

To keep them from coming, though we try to rebuff

Witches and warlocks fly through the air

Skeletons rattle about without care

The living dead walk aimlessly in the dark

Ghosts and ghouls gather round in the park

All watching the clock, for the midnight hour

Impatiently waiting for what they will devour

Maniacal beings appear on the spot

Of graves from the others, a most twisted plot

They rise from the underworld, ready to strike

Frightening humans, yes, those they dislike

Rattling bones, they create such a clatter

Run if you must, it won’t really matter

For thieves of the underground

Will search, until you are found

They’re coming to get you, ready or not!
