Too Many Tacos ~ An Acrostic (sort of) – #poetry

Too many tacos will always create

A night of discomfort, that isn’t so great

Crispy shells, with meat and cheese

Oh the things we do, just to appease

So, pile it on and hey, pass that plate….

Cause we’ll keep eating, til we regurgitate

There’s a fire in the sky,
A blaze in the night;
The phoenix has risen,
A harrowing sight.

Out of the ashes,
She burns like a flame;
Dare not touch her,
You’ll not be the same.

Anger has plagued her,
She’s out on a tear;
No mercy does she hold,
You better beware.

She’ll scald like acid,
Her touch is sure death;
Like a funeral pyre,
She’ll steal your last breath.

Coveting daylight,
She blocks out the sun
Engulfing, surrounding
There’s nowhere to run.

As she savages the land,
With a spark she does maim
Sad to say, we have only
Us humans to blame….

**Authors Note:  The incredible picture above was taken by my friend Sharon.  This was the sky, down the shore in NJ, last night.  Can you see the face in the fiery clouds? I chose to believe it was a phoenix, although I must admit it looks more devilish…

A Battle of Wits – #poetry – #NovemberWriting

A battle of wits
Is simply the pits
We argue and wind up ignoring
You think you’re right,
I say goodnight
I try to sleep, but here you are, snoring

So I give you a nudge,
But you don’t budge
And you wonder why I’m such a grouch
I climb out of bed,
Shaking my head
Go downstairs to sleep on the couch

Another night wasted,
Perhaps it’s lambasted
Imagine how we’d be if we’d listen
To what’s being said,
Instead lightly, we tread
Neither divulging admission

So silly are we,
To continue to be
Apart, when we should be as one
No more battle of wits,
Over stupid old shit
Let’s both say we’re right, and be done!

Come take a ride on my broomstick

Meet my precious cat, Mr. Quiver

We’ll turn your head, round and round

Upside down, make your whole body shiver

Throw in some jack-o-lanterns

Light the candles, watch them flame

The goblins? In the graveyard?

They’re writing numbers, taking names

I will tell my tale this Halloween

About the time I caught your eye

And how you fell for my greatest plan

I’m so sorry that you had to die

Your time has come to a dreadful end

On the gravestone, etched in black

Your name and, yes, the date you left

Sad to say, there’s no turning back

With each flickering flame, my years unfold

Tapering down, leaving days of untold

Dripping memories, of past events

Happier times, still I’m not quite content

Candelabra in hand, a welcoming light

The fire, still burning, with no end in sight

Celebrating the day, reaching for more

Wondering what this life has in store

As closer to Halloween, comes the time

Knowing I still haven’t yet reached my prime

So, I’ll blow out the candles, let the wax seal my fate

On this day in October, 2020, twenty-eight

In case you haven’t figured it out, today is my birthday. I originally posted this four years ago and have amended it to reflect this years date. I’m off for the day! See you tomorrow ❤
