Locked inside this pane of glass
The world is just outside my grasp
No one seems to see me here
I’m lost forever, this I fear
Stuck inside, this isolation
There is no hope, for my salvation
For those that I have sinned against
This is how I’m recompensed
Kept hidden, though I know not where
The mirror reflects, my own despair

I am but a piece, created from a strip of bark
Crumpled by your hands, smoothed out again
Your thoughts, played over and over
My essence lacks emotion, and yet, I
Am able to feel the passion that flows
From your fingertips, through the pen, to me
A single sheet of paper, waiting, watching
As you bring me to life with every stroke
With every sigh, with every bit of your soul.

It’s funny how people see things
So differently than we
Imagine if we saw the same
How boring life would be
Nodding in agreement, no
Words would never rhyme
Sunrise, sunset, moonlight glow
It happens all the time
Never underestimate
Another’s endless thoughts
Listen closely, to their words
And trust, it’s not for naught
Discover where they come from
And what they need to say
See the world, through other’s eyes
Before it slips away
