A castle stands, on a mountain high

Its turrets, reaching for the sky

Towers, decorating its building, where

The strong and valiant, fought despair

Coated in dusted powder, fine

Winter, cloaks a different time

Shrouded, by the clouds, so gray

A mighty warrior, here, did stay

To guard the lands, he knew, profound

Kept hidden, by the arbored ground

But days have passed, its empty now

Quietly standing, remembering how

Its stature, grand, for centuries, still

Shall always remain, atop this hill

A hidden cave, the wind, a rush
Where spirits linger, under brush

Some may show themselves to you
While others share a different view

You never know when they’ll appear
Perhaps it’s just that one stray deer

Who grazes, on the leaves of green
And every flower, in between

Nonchalantly, he will walk by
Then disappear, in bushes, high

Maybe you’ll chance a stroll, go to him
Dare to be brave, go out on a limb

Fear not the company, of those spirits, light-hearted
For they guard the shelter, of the dearly departed

Sunrise paints the morning sky

Exposing colors, soft in hue

Lifts the mists, that wander by

Exposing waters, ever blue

Orange wisps, to light the day

In the valley, where life is grand

As darkness sails on by, gives way

To the heavens, floating, above the land

This is the time when the world renews

Tis a gift from God, this day, anew

#writephoto – Carved – a short story

I followed a path, carved around a rock, a rather odd shaped path, somewhat matching the hollow stone that sat there. Moss and grass had gown underneath the rock, almost giving it a skirt-like feature. Or maybe it was a beard? Could this inanimate object be real? I dare move closer to it, now more curious as to its purpose. Gathering myself, trying to rid myself of the fear I was beginning to inhale, I touched it. Nothing. How silly I was to think this rock would have feelings. I climbed up on it, standing tall, overlooking the land, taking in the pastel colors of the sky. I felt a bit heady standing high, so I sat myself down on the stone.

As my feet dangled in the opening, a rather strange sensation came over me. I tried to draw my legs up but they wouldn’t move. I must have caught them on something. Desperately trying to remove them, I felt a resistance, someone or thing was holding me! Before I knew it, I was being dragged down, into the hole. Echoes of myself screaming as I fell deeper into the earth, blended with the laughter of another. The rock. He was not just an inanimate object, he was alive and I had angered him. With my last breath, anguished, I spoke the words, “I’m sorry”, but they went unheard. After all, a rock cannot hear…or feel…

Or can it?
