I do not understand
Why time passes by
Yet stands still
Why a moment can be fleeting
Yet we are caught in it
Why we hate to love
Yet love to hate
Is it that we are
Afraid of feeling the heartache
Of time gone by
But unafraid of causing the heartbreak
Without a moment’s loss
Afraid of defining our own worth
Within ourselves
But unafraid to define others inadequacies
As they stand before us
How can you say you are living a life
For the moments, the time
The love and the hate
The heartache and the heartbreak
Yet claim to have no life worth living
I do not understand

For what is love?
Is it a mere mortal sin?
The yearn for the flesh
That leaves the heart behind
The human taste
That sours a soul
Desire over passion
A lusting, unemotional
Of three words
Oft misspoken
For no better than
To gain false approval
A lie, a lure, pure delusion
In a never ending seduction
Of humanity, a foreplay
Of the mind
The prelude to cynicism

Wake up
And embrace
All that life has
Swirling around you
Keep close, those
Who matter most
The ones who
Create the laughter
And dry the tears
Tell them
They count
Before it’s too late
And they depart
Enlighten yourself
To the plight of others
Reach out
Make a difference
Do not restrict
The thoughts of others
For you may never know
The lesson they teach
Spread love, not
Disdain
Spread joy, not
Bitterness
We are all
One in the same
No one better than another
We are human
