patient1-1000x772Hello Friends,

You may have noticed (or not :/ ), that I have been remiss in replying to your comments, as well as commenting on your posts.  I do apologize, but it is with good reason.  If you read my poem from today, “Overwhelmed“, you’ll get a feel from where I’m coming from.  I apologize, and am slowly catching up with everyone, a little at a time.  I am also battling some health issues, which I do not like to dwell on, but have been more of a nuisance than not, and as such, I am away from my keyboard more than I’d like to be.  Please be patient with me.  I love reading your posts, it will just take me a bit longer.

A side note ~ if you have a twitter account, please make sure your twitter ID is filled in on the Sharing page (settings -> sharing).  I also use this as a way of telling you I loved the piece I read, especially when I don’t have time to comment!!

Love you all,

Dorinda

I wrote this piece in March 2014.  I’m sharing again because just recently, my daughter experienced this.  Please be kind to others, you don’t know what battles they are facing…..

girl-worried-1215261_960_720
You will never see
the silent pain, or the broken souls
who question why
Or how or what
they did to deserve this
enormous disruption of their lives.

Independency taken
away in the blink of an eye
and never an understanding
It becomes a constant battle
to make those around them perceive
the reality.

The glares of the accusing
unaware, of the horror within
the courageous body before them
They poke and tease
with disbeliefs and “you look fine”s
without an inkling or thought
as to what they suggest.

But the strong do not give up, do not stop
the fight against a villain
who showed unwelcomed one day
They struggle and confront the world
that looks upon them unsure, skeptical
Uncertain

They are brave and fierce people
who will not let this malady define them
who will not let the constant depression
sadden the brightest days
Who choose, instead, to be an inspiration
to others who fight a similar battle
with compassion, caring…hope

Dedicated to those who fight a silent battle, whatever it may be. God bless all of you.

Sugar is NOT Always So Sweet

I jokingly said, as I rolled out of my nice comfy bed, “I’m heading down to prick my finger on a spindle.”

Truth is, it’s no joke. I was recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. Along with that comes the daily blood testing (my fingers are rebelling) and all the “you can’t have this” and “watch your carbs”. You have to understand that telling me to “watch my carbs” is like cutting off both arms and legs. I am a carbaholic. But, cut them I have. However, I absolutely refuse to eliminate them from my eating plan.

Sugar-No-thanks-i-m-sweet-enough-Inspirerende-quote.1404759467-van-AandekookI guess it was inevitable. My paternal grandmother was diabetic, my dad was and my mom is. Genetics is not on my side. However, I refuse to let this dominate who I am. I am in control. And I say “TAKE A HIKE, GET LOST, GO AWAY!” So this is my next journey in this thing called life. I refuse to allow any illness to take over my being. I have fought all my life, from my birth, a major car accident (in which the officer on the scene said he was only dispatched for fatalities. I told him I was sorry I ruined his day), to being diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis, an illness that completely turned my life upside down. But here I am, still standing, stronger than ever and more determined to rid myself of these evil entities.

I guess you’re wondering why I am telling you this. It’s like this. If you’re following my blog or reading on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, etc, then you’re already on my journey with me. The ups and downs of my writing are a reflection of me. And you’re along for the ride. Buckle up, it may get bumpy.

If you have Diabetes and would like to share your story, tips, etc, please feel free to leave a comment.  I would love to know how others handle their condition.  Thanks!

Dorinda
