Charli, over at the Carrot Ranch gave us the prompt Exhaustion. Here are the rules:

In 99 words (no more, no less) write a story that includes exhaustion. Who is exhausted and why? Can you make art of exhaustion? Go where the prompt leads!

Exhausted. The mere thought of the word makes me tired. I suppose staying up until the wee hours of the morning isn’t the best way to overcome it, but writing has a way of taking what it wants. There’s never a choice.

Still, finding the chance to sneak a few winks before Marsha shows up is difficult. Once she is here, there is no hope of relaxing. She is a spitfire, a jumble of energy. I am just a tired old woman. She never understands. But then again, editors never really do.

Chapter 1… my mind is a blank.

Word Count: 99

Prompt: Exhausted

They flew at her, pages, from all directions

Retaliation, from years of corrections

All she wanted, was simply perfection

The ones she rejected, had found resurrection

An editor’s job, is never that easy

Some of the books, left her feeling quite queasy

She never fancied, the ones that were sleazy

Those, she tossed, on the pile, marked cheesy

Books are alive, they’re a writer’s soul

Each published volume, a wordsmith’s goal

But these bound beauties, were out of control

Days like these, would always take their toll

On an editor, who, out of the library, ran

Dodging the many books, like a crazed madman

Frightened to death, yes, the books had a plan

And that, my friends, was the end of dear Nan

2018 is starting out to be a good year! I have some exciting news I’d like to share with all of you! For the past year, I have been trying to find an illustrator for one of my children’s bedtime poems.  It can be a difficult task! Imagine my surprise when I found one right under my nose! I have a very talented friend who will be illustrating my book. Our first meeting is this Thursday and I am so looking forward to it!

The other news….I’ve been asked by an up and coming author, to co-write her book, as well as edit it. This totally blew me away. Her storyline is fascinating. We have another meeting later this month, one I am really looking forward to!!

So, that’s it for now, although I have my own novel still in the works, as well as the rest of the “Seasons” series, and several other poetry books! Phew!

Bring it on 2018!! I’ve been waiting for you for a long time!

Thanks for sharing my excitement!!

❤   Dorinda
