On top of the pile was the answer to everything. But what was the question? How can one find the answer without knowing what to look for? And on which pile?

Perplexed by the number of books placed haphazardly around the room, and upon shelves, Danny felt the overwhelming urge to run, in the opposite direction. There was no way for him to find the secret she claimed to have left, in the amount of time given.

Carly always had a mysterious way about her. It’s what intrigued Danny most.

It’s how she knew they would never find his body…

Left on the road, smack dab, in the middle
In her hands, with a map, she anxiously did fiddle

Trying to make sense, of all the lines and curves
This whole mystery, was getting on her nerves

There had to be a way, to get to where she needed
Should’ve paid attention, to the old man’s words, heeded

He told her not to travel, down this dusty trail
Perhaps another way, her plans, she should curtail

There had to be an answer, on this map, somewhere
That would get her to Da Vinci’s, in the town square

But there was no square to speak of, no town did exist
Just a farm, vacated, maybe help, she should enlist

Unsure of where to turn to, or how to find someone
She decided to go west, and follow the setting sun

But first, she had to find a way, to lighten her heavy load
Left everything she owned, on the side of Da Vinci Road

Years gone by, they still recall, how she disappeared that day
And how they tried to warn her, much to their dismay

No one travels the path anymore, no one dares to go
They know better, to steer clear, or death, it will bestow

The captain was nowhere to be found

It seemed his boat had run aground

Through starlit night and moonlight glow

He vanished in the undertow

Or had he disappeared from sight?

Did he, from his ship, alight?

Has he found his newest haven?

Or been swallowed by his first mate, Raven?

The bird will never tell, my friend

Of how the captain met his end

They walked in together, five friends, joking about, most likely on a lunch break. Their destination, a pizza place, next to the coffee shop I had plopped myself in. I watched as they playfully pushed, randomly threw punches at each other’s faces, the typical teenage thing. Or was it? Five friends went in. Only four came out.

Based on an actual event….
