bird-1839638_960_720Hello friends!

Over the course of this year, I will be sharing a different side of me.  I’m hoping it will lead me in new directions, and not smack into a tree.  I admit, my life is not all peaches and cream (whose is), and as such, my dark side does emerge from time to time.  I’ve decided I’m going to let it loose whenever it feels the need.  I hope you’ll indulge me on this endeavor as I spread my wings and soar!

As some of you have already seen, I am also dabbling in short stories.  I blame Richard for this.  I have to admit, I’m having fun   🙂

Your feedback is greatly appreciated….thank you in advance.

I’ll see you on the dark side….(and I definitely have cookies)

❤  Dorinda

ferris-wheel-768835_960_720There it was again, that feeling of spiraling out of control. She kept spinning around in circles, like being caught on the “Tilt-A-Whirl” at the amusement park. The constant in and out, picking up speed, slowing down, was making her nauseous. Each time she would try to escape, the spin increased, and she just tried to hold on. At least the view was interesting, that is when she had enough time to admire it, before the spinning began again. It was fine at night, though. The dizziness disappeared, as suddenly as the lights. When the dark crept in, she was able to sit quietly and finally relax. That’s when she saw him. He was wearing some kind of uniform.  She jumped, he was speaking to her but she couldn’t understand him. But she could see he was getting frustrated by the fact he began gesturing to her. She finally stood and got closer to him, but the spinning began again. Quickly, she sat back down. He had had enough. He hollered, almost with an echo in his voice,

“MA’AM?”

“Yes”

Finally, he got a reply.

“It’s time to go.”

“Go? Where?”

“Home, ma’am, the malls closed”

“The mall?”

Yes, ma’am, you’ve been riding the revolving doors all day. Time to go.”

windows-1209555_960_720In the wee hours, she is awakened by three distinct knocks. Glancing at her husband, she scowls at him.  He is blissfully sleeping. Something is wrong. He’s usually the one who hears the noises. But not tonight. Tonight, only she is summoned by the hidden ones, who rustle you from a deep sleep, then disappear. Will they knock again?

Silence returns her to her journey back to dreamland, until, a whisper in the dark reminds her, not tonight. Tonight, she is the one who must answer the call. Disturbing no one, she gets out of bed, dons her robe and disappears into the darkness. Cursing under her breath, she closes the bedroom window, reminding  herself to tell her husband to cut the branch that keeps knocking against the pane, when it dances with the wind.

I’m excited to announce that my new book, “Passages and Paths – A Journey of Life through Poetry” is now available in  paperback.  Kindle will follow in the next few days.

I decided to release this book on this date because it is an important one for me.  10 years ago I was stricken with Transverse Myelitis, a rare neuro-immune disorder, that changed my life forever.  I stopped writing, shut out the world, and once I got over my pity party, I knew it was time to fight back.  With the Grace of God, and my family by my side, I am one of the lucky ones.  I still suffer from numbness on my left side and partially on my right, but I am able to once again do what I love most.  Share my words…

Back Cover: In the ‘Journey of Life through Poetry’, Dorinda invites you to join her, as the wonder and awe of the Earth inspires her, bringing her visions to you through her poetry. Experience the setting sun, share in the challenges and victories of life, await the new day, and find yourself lost in the lush forest trees, as you join her on her journey, through Passages and Paths.

If you are so inclined, sharing or reblogging, would be greatly appreciated!  And I thank you so very much for doing so  🙂

Hard to believe this is my 8th book of poetry.  I couldn’t have done it without the inspirations around me and the beautiful people I have met here, and call friends.  Thank you, from the bottom of my heart  ❤
