She painted her lips, in a lavender hue

Promised to look her best, for she knew

The color she chose, would say it all

As she waited so patiently, for him to call

Large sterling hoops, dangled from her ears

Soft shades for her eyes, to lessen the years

A perfect head of curls that framed her face

She wanted to impress, with style and grace

Quietly, she waited, but the call never came

Realizing now, things were always the same

Decided to show him, just what he was missing

With lavender lips, it wasn’t he, she’d be kissing

The day had been so very hot
The AC was on the blink
I wanted something icy cold
Maybe just something to drink

I opened up the freezer
Wondering what there was
Inside, just waiting for me
YES! A pint of Haagen Dazs

I grabbed the small container
And a sugar cone, my favorite
Scooped the cold confection
And just as I began to savor it

My telephone started ringing
This really wasn’t the time
I’d let it go, not answer it
But, hey, it’s not my dime

I needed to put my cone down
So, on the table, I placed a plate
But when I came back minutes later
Alas, it surely was too late

A puddle merely sat there
The cone was empty and bare
The heat of the day had done its worst
I simply sat down in my chair

Saddened by what had happened
I took a moment to sit and think
Then lifting the plate up to my lips
I smiled, and took that drink

See, even though it had melted
The ice cream was as smooth as silk
I guess it’s true, about what they say
There’s no use crying over spilled milk

I couldn’t help but wonder
What lies beneath the fog

So tightly packed together
Right through it, I would slog

Making my way across it
Not knowing what’s hidden below

But that would just be stupid
Still, I’d really like to know

Perchance, what’s underneath
Is a secret, and I should wait

Or maybe there is nothing
Perhaps, I shouldn’t speculate

This usually causes trouble
Lord knows, that’s not what I need

But, maybe, just a little peek?
Seems it’s me who’s dense, indeed!

Cantankerous Cutie ~ #poetry #AugustWriting

As an ostrich, I roam around this place
Struck behind fences, not enough space
Come on, look at this adorable face!
Actually this is all quite unplanned

I really don’t have much of a choice
It’s not like I have a good singing voice
In fact, there is no reason for me to rejoice!
So you see, sometimes life’s not so grand

I always look like something is wrong
How would you feel, if your neck was this long?
No, I’m not a giraffe, and I have no birdsong
I make noises that sound rather bland

Don’t get too close, I’ll peck at your head
Instill a sense of fear, and some dread
Go look at the others, over there, instead
I’m really more than you can withstand

Just leave me alone, let me wallow away
The hours I spend, upright, every day
I really don’t care, what it is that you say
I’ll just stick my head, here, in the sand

She tried to run, but never got far
The other would find her, she knew

No walls, nor doors, did stop the chase
The nightmare, always quickly grew

It was like looking at herself, in a mirror
This ghost that followed her around

Frightened more, by what she saw
In the halls, of this battled ground

Same hair, same shape, her identical twin
Lavishly clad, she dressed for the night

Yet, she, in leather, known as the warrior
Was afraid to take on this sibling fight

For she knew her sister wouldn’t believe
It was never meant to happen at all

But Karma knew better, she always did
The warrior was about to fall
