I could hear the pounding of your heartbeat
Like the pouring of the rain against this old house
Every inch, creaking, from the weight of the world
On shoulders that held more than they should
Taken in stride, as if this was your lot in this life
Never a complaint, you just went about your day
And night couldn’t come soon enough for you
Tired and weary, you had fallen fast asleep
Before I even had the chance to say thank you
For making my world a much better place to live
And this I know, as time passes, and days fade
You will always be the light that guides me
Shining within me, through my own darkest hours
