Sparks, which ignite the fire, begin
With a simple raise of her hands
Answering, to the gods of flame
Bloodthirsty, their final demands
Darkness falls over, black is night
What’s left, is the flicker of a blaze
Seen from a distance, rising higher
This light, from the darkened haze
They urge her on, to her greatest feat
She conjures their greatest desire
Then leave her, languishing, in the heat
Of the flames, from her funeral pyre

Reminds me of the tradition here to burn a symbol of winter, a huge pile of would and on top a “witch”. It is a tradition to drive out winter and takes place on the first Sunday after carnival’s Tuesday. This year it is on February 18.
