She struck with a fervor, like a derailed train
Took with her, everything, all she could claim
Lashed out at those, for staying behind
Wondering if they had all lost their mind
Warnings aplenty, where this girl would land
Seems she had it quite carefully planned
Landfall would only cause her to stall
So she stayed upon water, embracing the wall
Of funnel spouts spewing, and wind shears galore
Something so ominous, what was in store?!
Slowly she churned, growing closer and then
Slamming into the mainland, again and again
Unleashing her peril, with all of her might
Keeping everyone fearful, throughout most the night
Until all was calm, not a sound could be heard
Caught in the eye of the storm, where chaos is stirred

Oh, thank you so much–I’m a bit slow on keeping up, I’m afraid 🙂

Take it slow. I’m sure Michelle won’t yell if you miss one here or there…at least I don’t think she will LOL

Your poem captures the power as well as the tragedy, Dorinda. My heart goes out to everyone dealing with natural disasters right now.

Seems like it’s everywhere. As one of my friends said after looking at a montage of photos from all that is happening, “It looks like Armageddon”.. Ugh

I don’t think we’ve seen the end of it either as ocean waters continue to rise.

Any massive storm usually is. I’m glad she turned away from us but my heart goes out to all those in the Caribbean, Florida, Texas, Louisiana and Georgia 😦

I think we had the same idea about this one! 😉 I love the descriptive writing you used and I only hope she stops unleashing her peril soon! She’s headed for my daughter and her husband who live in Florida. 😦

I hope they pay heed to the evacuation plans! They’re in my prayers. Hope they’ll be safe ❤

Thank you Dorinda. We’re expecting Amy to lose power for at least a few weeks. That’s what happened last time in the area she is in. And Kate is now safe from the fires. It was a close call, and fortunately just missed her. If the winds would have changed, her home would be gone.

Oh my goodness!! It must be so difficult to be far away from them. Thank God Kate is ok! I hope it misses Amy!! ❤

It is hard… the family Amy lives with, has made all the necessary preparations for the hurricane. They’ve been through this a number of times. Plenty of food, water, generators, etc. They’re busy boarding up windows. So they’ll be ok… at least they’re inland and up on a higher elevation. 😉

This hurricane is massive. I pray for all the people of Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, and of course Texas & Louisiana. What a mess

The power of the elements in a poem. Let’s pray for the victims and everyone else that Irma may still reach!

She’s causing such destruction. They just said she shifted her track and is now heading more Northwesterly, meaning she’ll miss us, but head for Georgia after Florida 😦

Let’s hope that at least she calms down more and faster than expected…
