Dry, like a desert’s swirling sand
Blowing across the cracking land

Masked behind the grains, a curtain
Of words, no longer am I certain

Finding no inner deep reward
I rattle, like a dried out gourd

Slipping into imagery
People only I can see

Lost among the dunes piled high
Reflecting on a life gone by

Forever, I wander, to find my way
Visions, thoughts, begin to fray

Into ragged pieces left behind
Cords that can no longer bind

Search again to find the verse
That rids me of this author’s curse

She comes calling in the middle of night

A ghostly figure, the witch of the light

She appears in the state room, there, alone

All that is heard is the sound of her moan

She’s no spirit of comfort, oh no, not she

Only there for herself, a lost memory

Long forgotten, the time passes by

Still she remains, though no one knows why

Perhaps she is looking for one who is true

Perhaps she is looking, for someone like you

Beware if you see her, run if you can

She’s sure to grab you, or any old man

Hear the sound of her broom, swept on the floor?

Now is the time, to run for the door

Haunting the home, she kept long ago

All she has left, is her eerie shadow

One that will hide, in bedknobs, with delight

Patiently waiting, to whet her appetite

I can’t seem to finish this puzzle
The blue of the sky has me bored
I guess I give up too quickly
Cause back in the box, it gets stored

There must be a way to get through this
Wait! Some of the pieces don’t fit?
How could I totally screw this up?
Blue is blue, isn’t it?

I sigh in frustration, or boredom
Not quite sure what it is that I feel
I need a new hobby to entertain me
Something with color, that’s real

Leaving my ennui behind me
I journey out to the place I adore
Forgetting about silly old puzzles
When my Earth gives me so much more

I wrote this in 2014.  Today is #NationalFrenchToastDay.  I thought I’d share it again  🙂

I still don’t have the answer
To a question asked
So long ago
Why do you buy milk, eggs and bread
When someone mentions snow

Does this sinfully sweet
Breakfast fare
Make us become a little manic
If we don’t get the ingredients
Do we all begin to panic

Do the slices of bread
With their cinnamon swirl
Remind you of riding a sled

Or the soft golden butter
Melting over the top
Remind you of warm days ahead

Do the fluffy white flakes
Falling down from the sky
Remind you of powdered confection

Or the syrup that’s oozing
Dripping over the sides
Remind you of sweet perfection

I want to know the simple truth
About this French Toast story
I’m pretty sure it’s not just snow
That gives it all its glory

Here’s the original story that asked the burning question: What Is It About Snow & French Toast?

Ceiling Wax – #poetry #NovemberWriting

Why on earth would I wax the ceiling?
Is the paint up there so badly peeling?

I look up, and to my own eyes
It’s only then do I realize

Ragged pieces, hang and flutter
The cobwebs hide the messy clutter

What shall I do, I can’t stand by
Oh, why must ceilings be so high?

Perhaps, I could try, sealing wax
That’s one sure way to hide the cracks

So, when people look up, all they’ll see
Are the pieces now stuck, to the ceiling and me
