Hidden in the Winter Fold

Fragile crystalline being

Ever knowing, ever seeing

Icy gray eyes, that find the cold

Hidden, in the winter fold

Of snowflakes, falling all around

Gathering, without a sound

A coat of white, your morning dew

Glistening in brilliant hue

Frosted Shadows

Frosted windows hide the light

Of shadows moving in the night

You glance to see a face so near

Blink and watch it disappear

This entity is peeking through

Looking, seeking, only you

Making its way o’er the threshold

A spirit lost in winter’s cold

A Groundhog’s Lament

You wake me in the morning
To find out if I see
My shadow lurking in the sun
Waiting to frighten me

If this shadow doesn’t show up
Early spring is in the air
But if this pesky fellow comes
It’s six more weeks of winter wear

Here’s hoping that the clouds
Hide the sunshine on this day
So when I come out of my burrow
I can chase the cold away

But next year, please, find someone new
Perhaps a weatherman instead
So they can be rustled from their sleep
And predict what days still lie ahead

Frozen

Trapped inside a frozen shell

The warmth, forbidden in her mind

Longing to find the comforting heat

And let the coldness melt behind

She finds no comfort from the ice

It’s a bitter and lonely place

The tears, once flowing from her eyes

Now frozen on her face

She seeks a fire to ease the chill

A pain she tries to quell

Yet she remains forever

Trapped inside a frozen hell
