Inside an artichoke, lies its heart,

Though not the kind we like to eat.

Instead, it’s a beautiful flower,

One that will never, skip a beat.

We pluck these spiny beauties,

From the soil, to feed a pang.

Perhaps, look for something else,

Which will satisfy, with a tang.

Just imagine, if we did allow,

This vegetable, to truly blossom;

Oh, how colorful the land would be,

On Earth, yes, simply awesome!

Colorful Thoughts ~ #poetry

If I were a color, could you imagine what I’d be?

The yellow of the sun, or deep blue, like the sea

Orange, like a marigold, or just plain lily white

I have to find the color that fits me, just right

Perhaps I am purple, shades of light and dark

Perhaps I am red, set the sizzle, light the spark

Green, the cool of summer grass, between my toes

So many different choices, tell me, do you know?

Or maybe I am, merely black, like the pitch of night

Tis where I often find myself, always when I write

I think today, I shall be, all the colors I can find

Lost forever, happily, in the rainbow of my mind

Prompt: What color do you feel like today?

Purple Plasma – #OctoberWriting #OctPoWriMo #poetry

There were crazy purple critters

Crawling across my nice green grass

Slinking, slithering, on their way

How could they be so crass?

To change the color of my yard

Into some kind of psychedelic mess

I wondered if it was the gal next door

The one who wore purple, I’d guess

She always seemed rather odd to me

I could never quite figure it out

Very strange things did happen there

Of this, I’ve not a single doubt

Venturing out, onto the grass

I couldn’t stay long, because of my asthma

By the fence, I could see her searching around

“Have you seen my dear purple plasma?”

I knew, there was definitely something wrong

I ran back inside, as fast as I could

No way in hell, I was touching those things

Time to find me a new neighborhood

Tell me, dear human, why you did this to me
Didn’t you know, how embarrassed I’d be?

Dyed like an Easter egg, pink, purple and blue
I wonder how you’d feel, if I did this to you

People all gawking, snickering, as I go by
Right now, deep inside, I wish I could cry

But wait, what’s this, my picture, they’re taking
I’m a tie-dyed poodle, famous, in the making!

Never mind what I said about being embarrassed
I’ll be hopping the next flight, for my debut in Paris
