Author Leslie Walter left this beautiful review, of my book, “Short & not always Sweet” on my Facebook wall.  The words made my soul smile.  I wanted to share them with all of you.  ❤

SHORT & NOT ALWAYS SWEET

If you venture to visit this faraway land, and you should, the only means of transport is to let your fingers do the walking through the changing scenery. The peaceful beauty of a Viceroy settled in the warmth of a summer garden announces the beginning of this poetic journey. A journey that advances as the afternoon sun lowers casting shadows, shadows that lengthen into the evening dusk delivering you through mysterious archways into the cold corridors of twilight. Throughout the dark hours of night loneliness is illuminated by senses of spiritual enlightenment until the dawn announces a new day, but all is not the same, you are not the same, such is the emotional influence of this poetic journey.
If you venture to visit this faraway land, and you should, do not anticipate a straight road for there are many twists and turns where distance and time are without measure. Observe with both eyes and mind, do not ignore a page, do not ignore a line, do not ignore a single word, for you will experience a sincere insight into the heart and soul of a beautiful poet. You may even be surprised to learn that Dorinda Duclos’s intuitive writing can arouse moments of déjà vu within the depths of your own mind.

Oh, to dream of spring;

To watch the floral parade

As tulips march on

She scolds me when I’m stupid
Though she’ll never use the word
It’s simply by, the look in her eye
That proves no words need be heard

I acknowledge with an uneasy sigh
But, somehow, it never soaks in
She looks at me and wonders why
I’d rather sink, than swim.

Things ingrained into me
From so very long ago
Are sorely hard to leave behind
For my own good, I need to, though

So I never let another
Drain my life, oh, how I’ve tried
As hard as I try to fight it
A part of me has died

To leave it in the past, tis true
I must heed what I am told
By one much younger than me
Who, with a simple hug, enfolds

Bringing comfort to my weary heart
Breathing life into my soul
My daughter shares her life-force
The thing from me, another stole…

Into the Abyss – #haibun – #senryu – #poetry challenge

Colleen’s poetry challenge for this week is Poet’s Choice. I chose to write a Haibun/Senryu.

Through the darkness of morning, a shrill sound breaks the silence. I am startled, groggy, finally realizing it’s the telephone ringing. I answer to hear apologies for waking me, as she rambles on about another place. She doesn’t care for where she is. She only knows she has to move.

I cannot go through this again. The last time nearly buried me. Still, I feel myself sinking further down, into that abyss, with no hope of seeing the light again.

Self-preservation
My anomaly exposed
Battles for the win

Head keeps pounding
There’s no end in sight
Take something to sleep
Say goodbye to the light

Forgot about tomorrow
Dreams take me elsewhere
To a place in the clouds
Where there’s nary a care

Float about, with no worries
Let the real life fade dim
Become one with the moon
I can always trust him

When reality sucks me
Deep into its plight
I imagine the chance
To sneak away, take flight

Escape what can happen
Never stay here and wait
Live my life to the fullest
Before it’s too late
