I wake to frosted windows, shimmering in the sun

I used to love the arctic air, as a child, I’d play & run

Winter’s breath is upon me, how I shiver in the cold

Seems I can no longer handle it, I must be getting old

She recalls the past, so very clearly
Dates and times on which they’d occur
Memories are all she has, kept close
But this day, with me, is simply a blur

She laughs, about times, of long ago
Recalls moments, when life was hard
Until reality greets her, once again
And quickly, she puts up her guard

Refusing to let go, of all she holds dear
Oh, how she wants these moments to last
But I watch, as the days slip by, quicker now
As she stares, out the windows, of the past

Past Her Prime ~ #poetry

They were right on the tip of her tongue

Things she needed to say to him

Perhaps she left them, where they were young

Back in the days when life was a whim

She’s different now, not so perfect

She wonders how it might have been

If he had looked beyond the face

To find the beauty that lied within

The years have passed, and she’s grown old

He’s been gone now, quite some time

How sad the bitter memories remain

Of a girl, now past her prime

Alone by the Window ~ #SeptemberWriting #poetry of #loneliness

It was her daily routine, dawn til dusk

She sat by the window, searching

Hidden behind the slatted blinds

She looked, hoping he would be lurking

Day after day, she sat there

No one came calling for her

Night after night, same as the day

Eventually, it became just a blur

You can see where the blinds remain parted

There, her fingers kept them pushed apart

Though she no longer sits by the window

She remains hidden, alone, with an empty heart
