Twas once a home, standing
Now, broken down and torn
Vines of leaves, hide its eaves
With branches, full of thorns
Windows, in many pieces
No curtains, do they hold
Still, he sees, beyond the trees
The humans, stark and cold
Hunching between the layers
Of bricks, still standing here
He cries in vain, and yet, again
Promises, never, to disappear
Left alone and long forgotten
He stays hidden, never exposed
By grass so high, as time slips by
He sleeps, in quiet repose
But…
Should you happen to pass this way
And you hear the whisper of a sigh
Don’t stop to look, at what’s in the nook
It’s much safer, to keep walking by
