Colleen has given us the words Haunt and Spell for this week’s challenge. Remember, you can only use synonyms to write your poetry! I used Spirit and Incantation. 🙂

A
Spirit
Dwells here
Ever present
Amongst the living
Bewitching in its charm
It catches one off their guard
And terrifies the weakest soul
With an incantation, it takes you
Now you only exist to plague this Earth

Setting fire to the midnight sky
She takes off, upon her broom
Halloween, the witch’s right
Tis the hour of certain doom
She leaves her black cat, safe at home
As she flies about, through the clouds
He mews his loudest, atop the dome
She repeats to him, he’s not allowed
This is her night, to release her wrath
Probably better if you stay home, too
For the broom of doom, in its aftermath
Makes you, the main course, for her stew

Dear sweet autumn
Where have you gone?
Someone came
And took you away
Though leaves are turning
But, my heart’s still yearning
Winter’s come
And I think it’s to stay
Frost on the ground
In the early morn
Green grass is long gone
Turned, shades of brown
And the sky is so gray
On this cool October day
I need to smile, turn
My frown upside down
November is coming
How quickly, it seems
Counting days
Til the colors have left
Pictures taken, a few
It’s what I needed to do
To keep my heart
From feeling bereft
And I’ll count the days, in so many ways
Until her beauty returns, once again
I’ll wait by the door, of this I am sure
Pray my autumn, this time, will remain

This past weekend, I had to say goodbye to a very dear friend. He was an incredible man, much like a brother to my husband, and treated our family with so much love and respect. I am having difficulty dealing with his death, and as such, I have not been writing, nor visiting WP as often as usual. Please bear with me, as I work my way through these emotions. Thank you ❤
