These aren’t the kind of needles
You might use to sew a shirt
In fact, if you prick your finger
You can bet it’s going to hurt

Now, you’d think it’s kind of silly
To walk around with those spikes
But this fella knows exactly why
Don’t bother him or he’ll strike!

And that won’t feel so pleasant
No, it’s worse than a bee sting
Next time you see a porcupine
Just let poor Bristly, do his thing

Immerse me in a liquid pool

Of ice blue water, let it cool

This burning desire, I feel inside

A drop or two, can’t be denied

Let me fall gently, in this sweet abyss

Let me taste sweetly, from your lips

Quench this thirst, with sheer delight

Be my diversion, throughout the night

Don’t be fooled by the beauty

Of the prickly pear cactus you see

There are thorns the sizes of needles

One look, and I think you’ll agree

Though the fruit can be rather tasty

It has other uses as well

No need to bother with the salon

Just grab some pure pear gel

There are many more ways to enjoy these

Just try them, little by little

Still, best to watch where you’re grabbing

Else you’ll land yourself in the hospital

Knit one, purl two

What on earth was I to do?

It’s supposed be a scalloped edge

Looks more like someone’s garden hedge

I must have dropped a stitch somewhere

I could go back, and count, and swear

I’ll never knit another sweater

But silly me, I know much better

How these needles play their tricks on me

So I’m off to find a quilting bee

I waited in autumn

Near our bench, for you

The leaves fell, floating

Reaching, never touching

The ground, filled with

Pine trees, shedding

Their coats of needles

And I, I could shed no tears

Watching, listening, not hearing

Is when I knew, you had gone

And this bench, shall remain empty

Forever and always, like

The emptiness, deep within my heart
