It feels like it’ll take forever

Between the dunk and very first bite

Of that luscious chocolate wafer

And it’s sugary middle, so white

You have to get it so perfect

It has be done with precision, just right

Else you’ll wind up with cookie mush

Then oh, what a terrible plight!

Remember, to take it slowly

You must learn, with all your might

To wait til the very last moment

Then it’s gone, in your mouth, out of sight

The day had been so very hot
The AC was on the blink
I wanted something icy cold
Maybe just something to drink

I opened up the freezer
Wondering what there was
Inside, just waiting for me
YES! A pint of Haagen Dazs

I grabbed the small container
And a sugar cone, my favorite
Scooped the cold confection
And just as I began to savor it

My telephone started ringing
This really wasn’t the time
I’d let it go, not answer it
But, hey, it’s not my dime

I needed to put my cone down
So, on the table, I placed a plate
But when I came back minutes later
Alas, it surely was too late

A puddle merely sat there
The cone was empty and bare
The heat of the day had done its worst
I simply sat down in my chair

Saddened by what had happened
I took a moment to sit and think
Then lifting the plate up to my lips
I smiled, and took that drink

See, even though it had melted
The ice cream was as smooth as silk
I guess it’s true, about what they say
There’s no use crying over spilled milk

Here I am, a spotted cow

Tell me what you think

I’m not the ordinary kind

When it’s milk you want to drink

No, I’m the one who dances

When the cowbells start to play

The girls, you see, they all love me

So here is where I’ll stay

So sorry to disappoint you

But I’m sure you’ll understand

I’m really a bull, in cow’s clothing

Even have my very own brand

You can skip the milk, altogether

And of course, forget the butter

Not every cow is exactly the same

Like me, there is no utter

French Toast ~ #NationalFrenchToastDay #poetry

I wrote this in 2014.  Today is #NationalFrenchToastDay.  I thought I’d share it again  🙂

I still don’t have the answer
To a question asked
So long ago
Why do you buy milk, eggs and bread
When someone mentions snow

Does this sinfully sweet
Breakfast fare
Make us become a little manic
If we don’t get the ingredients
Do we all begin to panic

Do the slices of bread
With their cinnamon swirl
Remind you of riding a sled

Or the soft golden butter
Melting over the top
Remind you of warm days ahead

Do the fluffy white flakes
Falling down from the sky
Remind you of powdered confection

Or the syrup that’s oozing
Dripping over the sides
Remind you of sweet perfection

I want to know the simple truth
About this French Toast story
I’m pretty sure it’s not just snow
That gives it all its glory

Here’s the original story that asked the burning question: What Is It About Snow & French Toast?

With this wonderful snowstorm, and all the crazies out yesterday, I just had to reshare this poem from 2014 🙂
