She fancied herself rather grandish

But truly, her looks were outlandish

She would never be Snow

And this did irk her so

Broken mirror, now seven years blandish

Dare believe you can

Achieve the impossible

By making it work

In the mere practical sense

That all things are possible

Spring break was over long ago

But not so for these three guys

Speeding down the parkway

They were in for quite a surprise

Beach ball and umbrella, packed

Things were flying everywhere

One of them lost his shoe & hat

None of them really seemed to care

Hoping to make it down the shore

Praying they had enough gas

Soon, they’d be at Island Beach

With the rest of the gang, en masse

But something happened to them

They never made it there, no show

The weather got the best of them

They wound up in a bank of snow

It’s one of those days
When life throws a curve
And you’re simply too tired
To even try to swerve

Laundries piling up
Dishes need cleaning
All you can think of is
What is the meaning?

Of doing the same thing
Day after day
You decide that it’s crazy
No, it’s not okay

How can this happen
It never seems to end
So you pick up the phone
And you call up a friend

You tell them to come over
To have a coffee or two
Perhaps bring the cookies
That’s what you’d do

Then sit around the table
And hope for the best
When suddenly, kids
And everything’s a mess

They’re running around
Chasing and screaming
All you are hoping is that
You’ve really been dreaming

You tell your friend
You feel like Mother Hubbard
Then it happens, and, splash
The cat falls off the cupboard

Horrified, and soaking wet
She rushes out the door
It’s when you finally realize
You can’t take this anymore

You pack up your suitcase
Wave to hubby, “see ya later!”
He looks like you spoke French
And he needs a translator

Hop in the car, turn on some tunes
And drive around, for a mile
Let out a sigh, head back home
At least you got out for awhile

Peculiar Tallulah – #poetry – #MarchWriting

#MarchWriting, #poetry, be kind, Don't judge a book by its cover, dorindaduclos.com, Night Owl Poetry, no bullying!, odd, panicky, peculiar, poems, stand up for yourself, writing, writing prompt

Tallulah had a mind of her own
Never let anyone inside to see
Seems her head was in the clouds
She was peculiar, as one could be

Hands to ears, so she didn’t hear
All the snickering, as she went by
Silently, she was quite panicky
Though, she didn’t know why

People found her so different
She was sure she was like the rest
Maybe it’s how she wore her hair
Maybe it’s the way she dressed

Nevertheless, she promised herself
To never speak, she wouldn’t dare
The town folk continued to berate
Poor thing, was treated so unfair

Til one day Tallulah had decided
It was time to stand up for what’s right
She stood in the middle of the mall
Making sure she was in everyone’s sight

Shouting at the top of her lungs
Announcing for all who could hear
“If I am peculiar, then so are you!
Just go home and look in a mirror!”
