The human factor remains a threat to them all

In the wilderness, they rely on their instinct alone

Still, animals feel pain, of this, I have no doubt

And the evil done to them, I shall never condone

We are born with certain characteristics

It is purely by instinct, we make a choice

Empathy is important, but never simplistic

Yet needs to be used, when using our voice

She is living proof
Animals know compassion
For she has taken
Another as her own true
Keeping it warm in the night

There is no struggle
Nor is there disparity
Where love conquers all

What Awaits Me

Do I dare wonder
What awaits me
A first impression
A lasting response
To the unknown

Do I trust my instinct
A gut reaction
An impulse
Or do I question
Myself, my tendency
To judge the unknowing

Defining what is wrong
And what is right
Allowing my conscience to lead me
Down a blind path
A prerequisite to knowing
What awaits me
