What does howl in blackest night
Headstones, aglow in pale moonlight
Whilst spirits wander, invisible sights
Taunting, in their whirling flight

Those who lie here, they have said
Are really not the ones so dead
For they’ve come from their earthly bed
To wreak the havoc, fill with dread

You, who doesn’t believe so true
Until they claim the breath you drew
Leaving you to wonder who
Took your soul, your heart, no clue

Was left behind in their devilish wake
Underfoot, the ground does quake
As you slip away, you begin to shake
Realizing this was your mistake

That dealt the hand and held your card
You drift away, put down your guard
Now you join them, ravenous, and scarred
Dancing in the old graveyard

Her spirit lingered, much like the mist that covered the sacred ground of the fallen. They were scattered among the mundane, the ones with no name, who were buried haphazardly among the royals. She was neither. She was free to roam, free to frighten those who thought themselves better. On nights like these, she would make her way out of the graveyard, between the headstones, watching them fall to pieces as she snaked her way through. One touch and she could end them all, but she preferred to play. Callously, entering houses, knocking over fine antiques, without a care, she wreaked her havoc among the living. Children ran, women screamed and men cowered, yet they could not see her, they only felt her wrath as she slipped by. And as the sunlight approached, and darkness began to fade, she would make her way back to her surreptitious place, buried among the dead….

….But this time she wasn’t alone.

Should I continue?  Or leave as is?  I’ll let you decide 🙂

Chains of Earthly Sin

The rattle of the wind

Knows nothing next to him

He carries the weight of hardened steel

The chains of earthly sin

Floating over graveyards

His face you cannot see

Just his lantern burning bright

To hide identity

A journey over misplaced souls

He continues on his travel

Hoping one day soon he’ll find

The one who can unravel

The binds that hold him to this place

And rid him of his life’s disgrace

Hidden where the spirits loom

Their shelters torn and tattered

Ethereal beings meet their doom

Lost souls about are scattered

Perched upon her marble tomb

Her body broken, battered

No pleasure left, all consumed

A life once whole, now shattered

In the dank and misty gloom

The shadow of a figure lies….

….Darkness prevails when an angel dies
