I tried to read the words
but the water washed them away

Every bit of ink a blur
every letter no different than another

Ripples, and waves of
some other place and time, unknown

I watched them fade into oblivion
taken out with the tide

Perhaps they would return again
perhaps they would not

And how was I to know
without remembering what was

I pondered a bit longer
then finally, I lifted up my glass

Like magic, they reappeared
whole, as if they’d never gone

And yet, the bottom of my glass
knew better, it new the truth

That the words would
someday, fade away, and I with them

It’s funny how things happen, how oblivious I am to my surroundings, and who I am, until I hit that proverbial brick wall and wonder why all I had done just faded away. She reminded me often of that. I don’t think I ever forgave her. After all, wasn’t it she who taught me how to hide my feelings, how to disappear into oblivion.

Faded, into black and white

A silken rose, once sweet delight

Its colors, now ravished, bled apart

Time stands still, as does my heart

We were together, now I am one

This emptiness, can’t be undone

By memories, so long denied

They still lay heavy, deep inside

So let the clock ticktock away

Yes, I will wait for that fine day

When the time, at last, for me is right

Never again will I fade, into black and white

Staring into you

Blank eyes reveal silent screams

As she disappears

A moment captured

As wilted petals, faded,

Held love’s memories
