Unsettled – #poetry

Unsettled, the skies weep
With darkened eyes, clouded
The sun, continues to sleep
Masked, hidden, shrouded

By haze and smoke that lingers
Though flames, nowhere, can be seen
The air, so thick, through my fingers
I am lost in an unending dream

Floating endlessly, eyes unaware
There are others who journey, too
Each of us spaced, obsidian glare
No chance for our sight to renew

Never Forgotten

With tired arms

They carried the dead

Covered in dust

No words need said

They worked in the piles

Finding comfort, instead

As Brothers in Arms

Side by side, head to head

We watched and we wept

Tucked our children in bed

While our nation was mourning

In a world filled with dread…

Remembering those who lost their lives on 9-11-2001, and those who tirelessly worked in the days ahead, who later lost theirs. We will never forget.

Shine in the Darkness – #dark #poetry

Pain rips through
Like a jagged blade
Hesitating, then plunging
Deeper, until you’re numb
Nothing left to feel

Silence overwhelms
Then quiets thoughts
Daring to scream aloud
Emptiness consumes
Grasping, choking
Defeating your fight

You succumb
Writhing endlessly
Into the abyss
All hope dissipates
Still you pray
For just a small glimmer
To shine in the darkness.

The sun’s brilliance chills
Offers no warmth from the cold
Winter’s light deceives

Watch
As life descends
Its journey uplifted
Then gently
Laid to rest
Miles away
From yesterday.
