I close my eyes, a flash of light
Kinetic energy splits the night
Over and over, no end in sight
Why does the silence plague me?

No sounds, all thoughts are muted
For this I am no longer suited
Hoping for signs, yet refuted
Looking for someone to save me

Thrown to the shadows, so bleak
Is it the light, I constantly seek?
Body used, my mind, too weak
Letting go, the will you gave me

Turn toward the darkness, unspoken
My spirit is tired and broken
Captured in a tomb, I soak in
The power you have to enslave me

Loved ones locked
In eternal sleep
While mourning doves coo,
And willows weep

Rains fall heavily
From a burdened sky
Clouds gather closely,
As together they cry

O’er the land,
Lain wasted, below
A turn of events,
Defeated by foe

Invisible, it conquered,
Prayed on the meek
Laughed in the face
Of the old and the weak

Ravished their bodies,
Then tossed them aside
Not a care in the world,
For the ones who had died

Piled in the cold,
In a box made of steel
No one to mourn them,
Nor help them to heal

Buried underneath
A sky, ever gray
It’s as if it knew,
It would all end this way…

Nearer the End – #poetry – #NaPoWriMo

I watch the sun set

In a brilliant blaze

Under a sky of stars

I get lost in their haze

Twilight engulfs

My most secret thoughts

As golden rays bury

My mind, distraught

I am captivated

By glorious, rays of light

That take me from morn

Into the night

While I sit here and wonder

What is to be?

When my eyes finally close

What is it I’ll see?

Will my time on this Earth

Be nearer the end?

Or will I still see the light

As thoughts transcend

Higher, like the swing

Which knows no bounds

I fly, for I am no longer

Planted, on the ground

Thirsty for Blood – #poetry – #NaPoWriMo

A silhouette against the sun
The wind takes over sails
As pirates slumber in the night
In hopes, the wind won’t fail

Lest they be forever adrift
In a sea, oft unforgiving
Battering waves, tossed about
Yet, it’s how they go on living

The life they choose, no matter
What others, of them, may think
They’ll stash abundant treasure
As they watch the others sink

Into the deepest oceans
Lost, in a battle of greed
Thirsty for blood, they conquer
No matter how much you plead

They take it all, there’s nothing left
Your ship, lay barren and wasted
And you cling to life, but lose the fight
Your own blood, you now have tasted

When Sunlight Disappears – #poetry – #NaPoWriMo

He flies by night, through darkened skies

In search of prey, as moon does rise

Talons, hidden, tucked underneath

Eyes opened wide, he searches heath

The slightest movement, he can detect

His victim, knows no circumspect

Caught in claws, then whisked away

It shall not see the light of day

For the owl must feed his family

Hidden high above, in yonder tree

He’ll do this task, without fear

Each time the sunlight disappears
