September days, now in the past

Autumn changes, growing fast

Green beginning its downward flight

Shifting the seasons, colorful light

Brings about orange, russet and gold

Caught in October breezes, cold

Falling from trees, their final descent

Making way for new life, the old, now spent

Enter November, the end coming near

Leaves, in a spiral, drop, like a tear

Blending into the earth, far below

When autumn turns, into winter’s first snow

Terror

Numb, against the muted light
Shining through the open window;
Curtains blowing in the breeze
Of windless air, no movement,

I feel for you

The emptiness, floods the room
With a blinding fury, an anger
From inside of me, masquerading
As sunbeams, filtering
Through my fingertips,
Escaping my grasp, particles
Dissipating, consuming oxygen,

I cannot breathe

An iciness, this cold, surrounds
My darkness, plays with my soul;
It does not melt away, nor deliquesce
As shadows block the warmth
And take no pity, suffocate and bury me,
Gasping, for that one last breath….

I awaken

Frosted Shadows

Frosted windows hide the light

Of shadows moving in the night

You glance to see a face so near

Blink and watch it disappear

This entity is peeking through

Looking, seeking, only you

Making its way o’er the threshold

A spirit lost in winter’s cold

Old Man Winter

In the pines, far down below

In the coldest winter breeze

We find no shelter from the storm

As it whips through frozen trees

Icy pellets whistle by

Like meteors from space

The old man has awakened

Brushing snow off from his face

He smiles a rather frosty grin

No comfort does he bring

His frigid presence chases away

The warmth to which we cling

He seems to find such pleasure

In coating the lands in white

Exhaling his breath, quite merrily

Throughout the winter’s night

Icicle Tears

When winter snow is heavy

Upon the fronds

And ice covers over

The rippling ponds

She weeps for the warmth

Once brought with the breeze

That allowed her dance

As graceful as leaves

That fell from the oaks

And surrounded her grace

Now covered in white

Like a veil ‘cross her face

It’s hidden her beauty

Each time, through the years

Under canopies, weeping

Her icicle tears
