Hanging upside down, in a nearby tree
Is a cuckoo bird, and he’s on an eating spree
Gobbling down Rambutan, delightfully sweet
He can’t get enough, so he uses both feet
As well as his beak, to stuff them all in
When suddenly, above him, his tail does spin
He tries to be cool, but his wings start sprawling
Usually what happens, when the cuckoo’s falling

Tiny bird
Nestles in snuggly
Perches high
On prickles
Weaving room enough for one
Contented alone

I don’t know how it happened, how they locked me in this cage
They’re outside, chattering, while I’m stuck here, enraged
They’ve a warped sense of humor, I need time to figure this out
Somehow I have to open the door, I can’t just sit here and pout
Don’t worry, I won’t do that, I’m nothing like dogs, no way
I’m superiority at my very best, soon, I’ll make those birds pay
Three against one, a bit unfair, as in this cage, I ponder
All these hours, chatting away, is too much time to squander!
I have to stay alert, and wait, the timing must be right
A distraction would be helpful, I can’t stay in here, all night
Finally! They’ve stopped that noise, are they now asleep?
I’m trying to look around at them, I mustn’t make a peep
Looks like they’re dozing, sounds good, I think I will partake
Curling up in sweet silence…
Their squawking, gave me a headache!

She makes her nest upon the water
When winter solstice comes to call
Calms the ocean, silences the wind
Ever elusive, this halcyon, so small
She sleeps among the rippling waves
Then flies away, we know not when
And so we wait until the time is right
For this wondrous bird, to return again
