In the Nook – #poetry – #JulyWriting

Twas once a home, standing
Now, broken down and torn
Vines of leaves, hide its eaves
With branches, full of thorns

Windows, in many pieces
No curtains, do they hold
Still, he sees, beyond the trees
The humans, stark and cold

Hunching between the layers
Of bricks, still standing here
He cries in vain, and yet, again
Promises, never, to disappear

Left alone and long forgotten
He stays hidden, never exposed
By grass so high, as time slips by
He sleeps, in quiet repose

But…

Should you happen to pass this way
And you hear the whisper of a sigh
Don’t stop to look, at what’s in the nook
It’s much safer, to keep walking by

Tea Time Talk – #23 ~ #TeaTimeTalk

Good morning, friends.  This edition of Tea Time Talk is a very short one.  Although many things happened this past week, they seem pale compared to Wednesday evening. We lost a beautiful family member.

Ida, whom we called Nonnina (Little Grandma in Italian), was 95 years old. I have so many incredible memories from a woman who was not a blood relative, but who welcomed my entire family as her own.  (She was my Uncle Gino’s mom.  He passed away in 2006 at the age of 50.)

Today, we say our final goodbyes to Nonnina…

Be Blessed, my friends.  Hug your loved ones and always let them know you love them…

It’s that time of year again.  On Saturday’s, during the months of June, July and August, I only do one writing/poetic post, and the other is my photography.  I call it my “Backyard Buddies” series because that’s where all these beauties visit me.  I hope you enjoy!

“It’s this newfangled thing
Come on, we have to try it!”

“I’m not liking what I see,
Not sure I want to buy it!”

“It’s a cupcake in a mug,
But you don’t get to drink it”

“Looks a little odd to me,
You might want to rethink it.”

“Now, don’t be a silly nilly
All we need to do is bake it”

“Am I supposed to like this?
‘Cause I don’t think I can fake it.”

“Trust me, you’ll love this
Would I ever steer you wrong?”

“Well, there was this time when…”

“Okay, let’s move along!”

“Patty, I don’t understand you,
Why must you try this thing?”

Well, Gerry, how I see it, is
It might make my taste buds sing.”

“Let’s hope that’s all it does
Or you’ll scare away the neighbors”

“Very funny, ha ha ha,
So will you try this flavor?”

“Okay, okay, I’ll give it a try,
And pray it’s the last one you ever buy…”
