Insanity Reigns ~ #MayWriting #poetry

The humidity was stifling
Her hair was quite the mess

Sweat dripped from her lashes
Down her cheek, onto her dress

She tried her best to hide it
This was not her usual style

Always cool and collected
She was becoming more hostile

The doorman glanced, curiously
After all, she wasn’t at her best

“You look very lovely today.”
“Surely, sir, you must jest

I’m saturated, like a sponge
Your pleasantries are inane

I’m soaked right through, can’t you see?
From standing in the rain!”

A sky as blue as the lady’s eyes
Not a single cloud could be seen

But, he opened up his umbrella
After all, she was the Queen

Rewrite ~ #poetry #dragon

Inspired by Ritu, of But I Smile Anyway, who is currently in the editing stages of her book!

Mischievous little dragon
Made his way onto the chair

On the desk, the author’s writings
Spread out, without a care

He wondered if she’d notice
If he added a line or two

But dragons don’t know how to write
He pondered, what he should do

Deciding he should try his hand
At a sentence, here or there

With a mighty breath, he blew
Now there’s fire, everywhere!

Whatever shall he tell her
When Mistress sees the mess

“I tried to fix your manuscript
I really must confess!

These scribbles made no sense to me
All I saw were smudges, nothing greater

So I decided to help rewrite the whole thing
I’m sure you’ll thank me for it later!”

Kaleidoscopic Swirls ~ #MayWriting #poetry

Something is terribly wrong here

When I look I can’t see a thing

It’s more like a kaleidoscopic swirl

With colors that dance in a ring

Maybe I’m not using them right

I thought this would be so easy

But all they keep doing, is dripping

This whole thing is making me queasy

Then I heard someone yell to me

Something about being a dope

Now I realize exactly why

I’m using a Popsicle, as a periscope

We got a chance to speak with Poetic Author, Dorinda Duclos, and learn a little bit about her love for writing poetry! Check it out!

How long have you been writing?

For as long as I can remember, although there was a time I stopped altogether, to raise my children.  Don’t get me wrong.  I have no regrets whatsoever.  If I had to do it over again, I wouldn’t change anything.  Watching them grow in front of me was/is, by far, the best experience of my life.

Where did your passion for poetry come from?

I was always inspired by the writings of the classic poets.  Robert Frost, is by far, my favorite, followed by Edna St. Vincent Millay and Maya Angelou.  Now, it’s nature and things of beauty that inspire me most.  I often write about the seasonal changes, usually in Haiku.

Do you write anything other than poetry?
