He, in a Lost World

#poetry, alone, bewildered, dorindaduclos.com, empty, lonely, Night Owl Poetry, ok i wasn't hearing things..phew, poems, sadness

He sits around a table

Lost in his own little space

Fondling his cold coffee cup

In a lost, bewildered place

Talks to the empty chair

That’s seated across from him

No one answers back, you see

Or wonders where he’s been

It’s a solemn conversation

About how his life could be

Do not look at him with disdain

One day it could be you or me

Sadly, this is a true story. So many people, especially around the holidays, are simply looking for a smile, a hello, recognition that they exist. Smile at a stranger…you may be the only light in a very dark place.

Nestled away in the boughs of the tree

Clutching a candy cane larger than he

With eyes as wide as the span of his wings

Hidden by ornaments and red beaded strings

Tapers of wax burn a soft candlelight

Reflections of Christmas shine in the night

Though small as he is, I’m sure you’ll agree

This little dragon, is the star on the tree

Twinkling in the cavernous dark

Across the ebony sky so stark

The colors of rainbows, against the night

Brilliant prisms of glowing light

To warm the coldest winter skies

With light that sparkles from your eyes
